We meet every second Wednesday of the month 7-9pm in Cathcart Baptist Church
Cathcart, Merrylee and Muirend Community Council are delighted to bring local people together in our library hub, to listen to speakers, whilst enjoying a hot drink in a warm and friendly environment. If you have a story to tell, you’re in the right place!
We aim to provide a varied selection of talks at each Micro Talks event, and would be grateful if you could provide an idea of the subject your presentation will focus on.
We ask that talks are not overly political or challenge people’s personal beliefs, and encourage speakers to provide 6 minutes the audience will find informative and light hearted.
If you’re unsure about how to create a presentation, please let us know, and we’ll be happy to help.
Please send us an email, we need to confirm that there is a spot available for you.
If Tommy or Yla confirmed your booking as a speaker, you can start thinking about your presentation!
When planning your talk, consider the following:
Now that your talk is taking shape, you can start building it!
If you’re familiar with PowerPoint, please download the template, which includes all the instructions. If you’re not familiar with PowerPoint, let Tommy know and he’ll help you out.
The template is set up to automatically move to the next slide every 20 seconds. You don’t need to click to move it, but you also can’t stop it from moving.
Please use reasonable quality photos, as they will blur when projected.
Some browsers might prevent you from downloading files. You may try a different browser or please contact Tommy.
2 weeks before the event, we ask that you send us a brief bio and a photo of you to help us promoting you as one of our MicroStars.
A good bio should be an intriguing summary of who you are, your passions, and what inspired you to become a speaker. It should also provide a glimpse into what you’ll be discussing. Aim for a bio that’s between 80 and 100 words.
1 week before the event, you’ll need to send us your PowerPoint presentation.
We’ll join all the presentations in one file to make sure everything works as it should.
That’s it! All the prep is done, now you just have to turn up on the day.
The MicroTalks event will be held at the Couper Institute Library in Cathcart. The library is located at 84 – 86 Clarkston Road, Glasgow, G44 3DA.
The library has ramp and lift access, but please note that the adjacent train station does not. First Bus routes 4 and 6 pass directly outside the library.
The event begins at 2 pm, and we’ll be there from 1 pm onwards. To ensure a smooth event, to finalise any last-minute details and to introduce you to other speakers, please arrive around 1:45 or earlier.
The MicroTalks event will feature six speakers. The event will be divided into two halves and conclude around 4 pm.
After the event, all the speakers are invited to join us for a celebratory refreshment at a local bar.
No, but we have a small budget to pay for expenses if agreed in advance.
Yes! All you need is a Micro Talk idea and willing to share it with an audience. Get in touch and we’ll help you getting started.
We understand, don’t worry. Just give us as much notice as possible though. We might be able to deploy our reservist speakers!
Yes please. We’re always looking for speakers, so if you’re interested, drop us an email and we’ll add you to our waiting list. We’ll then get in touch closer to the next Micro Talks date to check your availability.
You might need to Sign in to Google, but if you’re having problems email Tommy.
