As we approach Christmas, I want to say a huge thank you to all our local residents for your support over the year for Cathcart, Merrylee and Muirend Community Council.
We have had many successes in 2025, with the completion of our mural at Cathcart station, a new series of film screenings at the Couper Institute, our first venture into youth events, another vibrant Window Wanderland, a hugely successful summer fete and the brilliant Micro Talks in the library.
We’ve built relationships with local businesses through our summer Discovery Trail and brought festive cheer with our first Christmas lights switch-on. Plus we’re already looking towards our first event of 2026, with a fabulous big band night on Friday 23 January.
We’ve worked hard on the actions you told us to prioritise: replacing the Merrylee Primary pitch, rejuvenating the Couper and breathing new life into our local parks.
And more than all this, we – all of us, together, across Cathcart, Merrylee and Muirend – have helped create a sense of community and belonging, in a world where many seem ever more determined to divide us.
Of course, there is always more we can do, and I hope you’ll stay in touch and let us know what else we should be working on.
But as we approach the year’s end, I reflect that I am so proud to play a small part in representing this community, and I hope you are proud to be a part of it.
On behalf of all our community councillors, may I wish you and those close to you a very merry Christmas, and a safe and peaceful new year.
