- Chairs Report Chair’s Report Sept 24 – Google Docs
This report provides an update on progress on those of our priority areas which have developed since our last meeting in June 2024, and on other relevant areas.
Priority 8 – Enforce School Car-Free zone
As agreed at our May meeting, we worked with our local primary schools to create a leaflet spelling out the times of the car-free zone. This was designed by children at Fun Lodge after-school club and has now been distributed to all P1 children at OLA and Merrylee, and to children at Limetree nursery school. Feedback has been good.
Priority 13 – Cycling Infrastructure
Glasgow City Council is consulting on its Glasgow City Network, which will deliver about 56km of cycleways and improved pedestrian infrastructure. A consultation is underway. At the request of a local resident, we have enquired about the status of Delvin Road within this Network.
Priority 18 – Welcome to Cathcart sign
Our application to Scotrail for £2,727 funding to create a mural at Cathcart Station was successful. This includes £150 of maintenance funding, to repair the site in the event of damage: it will be our responsibility to hold this funding in our account and ensure it is ringfenced for that purpose. We are now awaiting the results of our separate application for permission to site the mural there. On the assumption that we will receive this, a sub-group is meeting the mural artists on site on Thursday 12th Sept to do some planning.
Other – Merrylee Primary Pitch
In March this year we wrote jointly with Merrylee Primary PC to Glasgow City Council’s Director of Education, urgently requesting action to replace the pitch and flagging up the Infrastructure Fund as a potential route. On 14 May, a meeting did take place at the pitch, with Community Council members and Glasgow City Council representatives. Following this, we wrote jointly with the Parent Council to Glasgow City Council asking for a timescale for repairs, and in August we received a response advising us that there is no commitment from the council to repair the pitch, and no budget is available for this work. We are now pursuing other routes to funding, and Ross Taylor will report on these under the Area Partnership item.
Other – October AGM
We are required to hold our AGM in October. At this meeting, all office-bearers are required to stand down and may, if they choose, stand again. This year we have a difficulty with the date, as three of the office-bearers are unavailable on 9 October. We are therefore exploring venue availability for 23 October, and at the meeting I will be proposing that we shift our AGM to that date.
Upcoming Council and related events and funding opportunities
From time to time, Glasgow City Council advises us of meetings, consultations and funding opportunities. A selection of these is noted below for any interest and follow-up.
